It all started with a simple idea for a podcast.

When I first launched The Thing About Cars back in 2017, I had no idea what the hell I was doing. I was just a guy who had a passion for cars and wanted to share it with others.
I was so new to podcasting that I didn’t even know how to record an episode properly, let alone release it on iTunes or get people to listen to it.
But since then, my show has grown from a hobby project into a full-time business, and we now have nearly half a million downloads per month across hundreds of episodes.

I just wanted to talk about my professional life, and I thought it would be fun. That was back in January when I started broadcasting from my home.
I didn’t know anything about podcasting, but I figured it would be easy. This was what everyone always told me: Just get a microphone and a laptop, find a free recording program and go live.
I did that, and it was pretty awful. The audio quality was terrible, and the lag time between when people asked questions and when I answered them was noticeable. At first, I was embarrassed by this.
