Sensex Rises Nearly 500 Points In The Stock Market, Nifty Crosses 16,000

Mumbai: The Sensex rose nearly 500 points in early trade on Thursday due to a positive trend in global stock markets. Nifty also opened with gains. During this, the 30-share BSE index rose 498.77 points to 54,249.74. On the other hand, NSE Nifty was up 149.7 points at 16,139.50. Titan, Power Grid, M&M, Asian Paints, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Wipro, and ICICI Bank were among the top gainers in the Sensex pack. On the other hand, Reliance Industries, Bajaj Finserv, Hindustan Unilever, Nestle, Maruti Suzuki India, and Bharti Airtel declined.

Among other Asian markets, markets in Tokyo, Seoul, and Shanghai were trading in the green, while Hong Kong’s markets registered a fall. US markets closed with gains on Wednesday. In the previous session, the 30-share BSE Sensex jumped 616.62 points, or 1.16 percent, to close at 53,750.97. The Nifty of the National Stock Exchange also closed at 15,989.80 with a gain of 178.95 points, or 1.13 percent. Meanwhile, international oil benchmark Brent crude rose 0.79 percent to $101.49 per barrel. Foreign institutional investors sold shares worth Rs 330.13 crore on Wednesday, according to stock market data.
